"Willie, you're so divine!"

These words were spoken to me by an elementary school teacher while I was in the third grade, meaning sometime in 1989 or 1990. For my entire life (give or take), I have lived with the surname of "Devine", which is pronounced exactly like the word "divine". Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines "divine" as the following:

di�vine adj (14c) 1a: of, relating to, or proceeding directly from God or a god (the ~ right of kings) b: being a deity (the ~ Savior) c: directed to a deity (~ worship) 2a: supremely good: SUPERB (her pies were simply ~) b: HEAVENLY, GODLIKE

Gee, this sounds a lot like a graduation speech. Anyway, I don't know very many Devines that are related to me, although I know a host of Devines that aren't by any means related to me by blood. (Hi Katie!) However, as I've learned over time, Devines can do anything. So can I. Well, maybe not anything, but we can do a lot.

Thus, that is how "Devine Intervention" was created. I don't know who was the first to mention the term "Devine Intervention" to me, although I can certainly make a guess that it was a pun. But it was a pun that stuck in my head for a long time. Now, I'm going to fulfill my destiny--and share my wisdom with the whole lot of you who wish to hear it.

Devine Intervention (DI) is nothing more than a newsletter distributed whenver I feel like it (though I'd like to get three or more editions out a month if I can). Basically, people like you submit questions to me and then, with any luck, they'll get answered in a near-future edition of DI. What types of questions can you ask? ANY types of questions. You can be as serious or as silly in the questions as you want. Likewise, I will be as serious or as silly as I want in my response. That's my prerogative, after all. I humbly ask you to subscribe to DI, and also to submit questions.

The latest edition of DI will be e-mailed to everyone on the mailing list, which is provided by those great guys at ListBot. (Free stuff rules!) It will also be posted on the main DI page following its publication. Past editions will be placed in the archives for all to read.
